Hi,
In
Resource Monitor, click Disk, select
System under Image column, click
Disk Activity to expand, then you could show the full path of the
File column and see which file does the actual disk reads/writes. Besides viewing in Resource Monitor. Meanwhile, you could open
Task Manager, click Processes, click
View and click Select Columns, select
PID (Process Identifier), select I/O Reads,
I/O Writes, Image Path Name, then you should be able to view which
Image Name does I/O reads/writes.
Alternatively, you could use the command
tasklist to show the detailed information. Please refer to:
Tasklist

thank you for your post. however you don't seem to understand the problem i'm having. i know how to use resurce monitor.
the problem is, that even though a third party program does the disk writes and reads (Azureus.exe) ( i can tell from the file path. it's locations only that third party program would write to (E:\Torrents\ ) the image name
says System . which is wrong. the image name should read as Azureus.exe
and no, i should not contact the developer of that program with this problem. because this problem occurs with many programs.

To show the sub-process related to System, please type:
tasklist /s System /FO LIST

C:\Windows\system32>tasklist /s System /FO LIST
ERROR: The RPC server is unavailable.
i think we might be on to something here
edit: i understand that System specifies a computer name. i replaced "system" with the name of my machine and i got a list of running processes. i do not understand how this relates to my problem.
i appreciate your continued assistance and efforts and i am very grateful towards you.
however, i still feel we have a communications issue. i am sorry that i express myself unclearly. therefore, can you, in your own words, describe what my problem is? so i can see if we are on the same page, so to speak?
